His leadership extends beyond the local church. As Moderator of the Fellowship District Association, former President of the Metropolitan Kansas City Baptist Ministers Union, and Assistant Executive Director of the Home Mission Board of the Progressive Baptist State Convention of Missouri, Pastor Jones has made a significant impact across the region. His heart for ministry and service is evident in every role he takes on.

Pastor Jones is also a lifelong learner. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from Alcorn State University, a Master’s and Doctorate in Theological Studies from Sure Foundation Theological Institute, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Seminole, Florida. His commitment to education and theological depth enriches his preaching and helps him guide others on their spiritual journeys.

In addition to his ministry, Pastor Jones serves as Co-Lead Chaplain for the Kansas City, MO Police Department, providing spiritual support to officers and the community. He is also the Founder and Board Chair of the J.S. Jones Charitable Family Foundation, which focuses on community development, affordable housing, and educational services, furthering his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

Pastor Jones’s family is central to his life. He has been married to First Lady Deborah Townsend-Jones for over 30 years, and together they have two children and a legacy of over 35 grandchildren. His deep love for his family is mirrored in the care and attention he shows to the Highland congregation, treating each member as part of his extended family.

With roots in Morton, Mississippi, Pastor Jones brings a down-to-earth spirit and a passion for people to his ministry. His powerful preaching and compassionate leadership have inspired many, making him a sought-after speaker for revivals and engagements across the country. Under his leadership, Highland Missionary Baptist Church continues to grow in faith, service, and community outreach.
